The Basis for the work of Jo-Ann Lizio:
Flight and birds have been essential to the work of Jo-Ann Lizio, nationally respected and award willing abstract artist. As early as undergraduate study, Lizio analyzed Leonardo da Vinci's drawings exploring the phenomenon of flight and how a combination of art and air travel can set imaginations free. (see "Homage to da Vinci Codice Sul Volo Degli Uccelli"). In 1986 the artist traveled to Japan on a faculty development grant that resulted in a two person exhibit at the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston. MA and a solo show at the College of New Rochelle, NY. The images of the compositional abstractions were exclusively about birds and the exploration of flight. One of the pieces in the exhibition was selected for the Purchase Prize and is now a part of the college's permanent collection. Her website shows the progression of her investigation into the powerful force of the flight in combination with an expanded palette of abstract art and air worthy subjects.
