Jo-Ann Lizio
Contemporary Abstract Artist
Naples Florida
“The element of the unknown is most important in my work as I believe art always has a problem to solve, an analysis, leading to an unknown conclusion. Each solution contains the next problem. I am challenged by this on-going adventure, which by definition is infinite.” Jo-Ann Lizio

Artist

The works of Jo-Ann Lizio, nationally respected and award winning abstract artist, use the physical aspects of flight and birds as influences in her work. As early as undergraduate study, Jo-Ann analyzed Leonardo da Vinci's drawings exploring the phenomenon of flight and how a combination of art and air travel can set imaginations free. (see "Homage to Da Vinci Codice Sul Volo Degli Uccelli" in the Contemporary Flight Art Gallery) Within each of the galleries on the site you will find an investigation of the powerful force of flight with an expanded palette of abstract art and air-worthy subjects.

Contemporary Flight Art is the link between fine art and aviation technology. The artist's response to the forms and colors of whole and dissembled aircraft is to abstract the elements into the works rather than produce literal representations. Adding the painter's interaction with aviation pigment to the raw materials from aircraft has resulted in a fine and moving body of work.

Flights of Fancy presents an investigation of butterflies and flight using their colors and forms in abstract compositions. The inventiveness of pushing the images using repetition, reversals and in-depth compositions has led to a body of work that engages the viewer in new appreciation of visual interpretations.

Heavenly Bodies dulls the line between fantasy and reality. The works represent a transformation of motion and fantasy applied to the subject of human form. By opening her talents to the abstract representation of man and his desire for self propelled flight, Jo-Ann has created images that make the dream possible.

Remembered Landscapes acknowledges the memories and fleeting moments glimpsed through flight with enough added imagination to set the viewer's mind free. The movement of flight and the abstraction of the visual elements below combine to form powerful abstract images.

Aerial Viewpoints can serve as memory points to a pilot while in flight. The same perspective can be applied to looking at our own lives and finding the "viewpoints" that served as markers in our own progression. These reference points let us plot our movement to finding our own perfection.
